Target Audience
The award-winning Rider magazine is published by BRC (British Riding Clubs), an organisation representing a network of over 450 riding clubs and riding centres throughout the UK.
BRC is affiliated to the British Horse Society and its aims are to assist and encourage those interested in horses, improve and maintain the standard of horsemanship and improve equine welfare.
Rider is read by the 34,000-plus owners, managers, staff and volunteers involved in running the network of riding clubs and riding centres in the horse-mad UK, from the Orkneys to the Channel Islands.
The magazine represents everything that is joyful and fun about horse ownership as well as providing practical and timely advice and information on every aspect of horse training, care and safety and that of riders too.
BRC is a very active organisation and its many events, and the activities of its members, are highlighted in Rider.

Creative Challenge
In winning the bid to produce the quarterly publication Quercus Eight’s designer Amelia Clark created a vibrant new look for the publication, which has proved a big hit with readers and the publishing profession.
Rider won an Award of Excellence in the 2011 Institute of Internal Communication Awards and went on to be named Class Winner in the hotly contested ‘Redesigned Publication’ Class.
It was a triple-win for Quercus Eight and its clients as British Horse also won an Award of Excellence.
The competition judges said Rider was a “first class product” whose “bold and confident redesign makes an immediate statement”.
In awarding Rider the top honours the judges said the new-look magazine was now a more polished and professional product with news-stand quality.

Customer Engagement
Quercus Eight work closely with Rider’s editorial team and are responsible for account management, printing and distribution as well as design.
The magazine has engagement built in with its “bold and confident” format. There is a lively letters page and useful box-outs accompanying features to help readers assimilate key facts quickly and easily. Competitions are another great feature of the magazine and range from training bursaries to the funniest photo.
