ACE Find a Consultant

Ace Directory 2011Ace Directory 2011

Target Audience

ACE (Association for Consultancy and Engineering) represents the business interests of 650 firms operating in the consultancy and engineering industries in the UK.

Its members include some of the world’s leading consultancy and engineering businesses as well as smaller enterprises. Together these firms employ over 90,000 professionals.

ACE promotes the critical contribution its members make to the nation’s infrastructure. One of the ways in which it does this is through the ACE Find a Consultant, the definitive guide to UK consultancy and engineering.

Creative Challenge

The brief for Quercus Eight in creating the ACE Find a Consultant directory was to produce a publication that makes it quick and easy for users to find the engineering and consultancy expertise they need and provides a showcase for the capabilities and achievements of ACE members.

We were responsible for the overall design, account management, printing and distribution of the publication.

The directory is well sign-posted with colour-coded alphabetical and geographical listings, a straightforward page index and a section classifying firms by the different types of projects they undertake.

Customer Engagement

To stimulate interest in the new directory members were invited to submit photographs of their prestige projects.

All the short-listed entries were featured in the directory and the winning entry – Futures Community College in Southend on Sea by Wensley Consulting – was given pride of place on the directory cover.

Five thousand copies of ACE Find a Consultant have been printed and distributed.

As well as being a showcase for members the directory is also a major promotional tool for ACE itself, providing an insight into its role in representing the consultancy and engineering sector for almost 100 years.

Business Result

An additional challenge was to make the publication self-funding through directory sales & advertising revenue. This was so successful that it also brought a financial return for ACE.

The directory was launched at the ACE Conference in May 2011 we have produced a range of marketing materials for ACE including Oyster cardholders.

An online version of ACE Find a Consultant will be going live at the end of this year and we have been commissioned to create the 2012 directory.

ACE has been working with Quercus Eight for the best part of six years. We have found them to be very efficient in their sales operation in securing advertising for our annual directory. We value the relationship we have with our member firms and it is important that any third party providers do not do anything to harm that relationship. I’m happy with the service we have received from Quercus Eight on the sales side and in their dealings with member firms.

The directory publication has generated a surplus for us during Quercus Eight’s contract relationship with us, so we have not had to dip into our resources to publish the directory.

They are very easy to deal with and good people too – which I think is important as relationships are everything in our line of work. They have also come forward with innovations to help us make our product better. Sometimes we have not been in a position to carry some of those through but it has been very good to have the choice.
